The Bean

On Monday, I had a terrible scare and ended up in the emergency room worried that I was having a miscarriage. During my pregnancy with Matt I had a subchorionic hemmorrage (SCH)that bled out at 11 weeks, and again, thought I was having a miscarriage. However I never cramped with that episode. This was different. This was brown blood that increased to red blood and lower back cramps.

I was at work and needed to get home. It was pouring rain and I knew if Pete came to get me, by the time we made it to the hospital I could have been there for 30 minutes already. So I took the train home. We hit every red light there. Luckily they took me back within 15 minutes and had me hooked up to an IV and were doing my blood work.
It was 4 hours later though before they got me back for an ultrasound. Luckily, God heard our prayers and our little bean was in there, heart beating at 176 and after a few minutes started to dance around for us!!! Probably thinking, Hey there mom and dad, what's with the spotlight??? And what was it that they saw causing the bleeding? Another SCH. Apparently 90% of pregnancies have one. Most are reabsorbed back into the body. For some reason, mine bleed out.

So I have a confession to make. I never really believed that this was a viable pregnancy. We saw the baby on an earlier u/s and saw a strong heartbeat but I still didn't believe it . When the bleeding/cramping started on Monday I just knew that this was it. However God decided to bless us once again. We are fighting hard for this Little One and will hope and pray for our blessing every single day.

On Wednesday we went to the perinatologist for another scan (previously scheduled to check for fibroids--there are none, yay!). They sent us home with a picture. I wanted to share with all of you the beautiful bean that will be Matthew's baby brother or sister. Isn't s/he beautiful??
